Roberta

Roberta Shintani, former film industry executive, with over 25 years of operational and financial expertise, has managed multi-million dollar budgets successfully.  Her 12-year tenure as CFO, COO and President of Dino De Laurentiis Company's many businesses has allowed her to acquire an array of experience and knowledge, not only in the film industry, but in the corporate world, as well.

Legendary film producer, Dino De Laurentiis, a friend and mentor for over 20 years, quoted Roberta in his book: Dino: The Life and Film of Dino De Laurentiis, where she expresses learning his, “very innovative thinking, in both a creative and business sense”. By employing DeLaurentiis pre-sales “revolutionary concept” in her work today, Roberta has exceeded barriers in business by collaborating the two fields of creativity and finance.

By utilizing the application of her marketing, operational and financial skills, Roberta produced and executive produced the History Channel documentary, Free a Man to Fight: Women Soldiers of WWII.  The film garnered 5 first place awards, including the prestigious Cine Golden Eagle Award from Washington, DC as a film notable and representative of America. Additionally, Roberta worked with a crew of 300 in Europe by taking on the position of Production Supervisor on Universal Studio’s U-571, starring Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey.

Along with applying her CPA credentials to filmmaking and consulting for Independent Filmmakers, Roberta has used her talents in accounting for estate trusts and LLCs.  She also performed forensic audits for a UK-based security firm.

One of her clients was Joe Phelps, CEO of Phelps Agency and in 2011 he offered an opportunity with his firm due to the sudden loss of the agency's COO. There she created the HR and benefits department, and was responsible for the ESOP and 401K plans. She also became a Partner in the agency’s sister company, Phelps Total Market, which serves multi-cultural diverse clients.

Today, while seeking her desire to give back and give thanks, Roberta made the decision to join Coalition for Engaged Education, a nonprofit in Santa Monica as COO, where she is able to apply her cultivated skill set. With the deep understanding that youth look to us for guidance, example and support, she strides to be a key contributor in making a positive impact on their lives. At Coalition for Engaged Education she can help at risk students finish high school, apply to college and take on jobs that they never thought were possible.
